The surprising reason why your flexibility isn't improving...

If your flexibility is lacking you could be missing out on so many opportunities and experiences!
You might feel the need to exaggerate your performances. This isn't beneficial as it exhausts you and doesn't always work.
The need to stand at the back of the classroom, could mean that you have very little confidence in your ability as a dancer, which is likely because your leg isn't reaching your desired hight.
When you are feeling hopeless, trying to apply corrections and not getting results. It could mean that your lack of flexibility is limiting your ability.
All of the above affects your self-confidence and causes an unpleasant dance experience.
WE DO NOT WANT THAT!!
HOW DO WE FIX THIS?
When your flexibility is not improving, it usually means that you are relying on stretching in class alone... (Don't we all)
Unless you are stretching consistently every day at home, you will not see an improvement.
Lets for argument's sake say that your flexibility is still not improving after having stretched consistently at home. This is likely because your stretching technique is not beneficial to your body or just over all incorrect.
Please don't lose hope.
There is a solution, because flexibility is for everyone, even if it doesn't feel like it. With a little bit of research and getting to know your body you can find the techniques that are correct and works for you! Reach out to your dance teacher, they know your body better than most. They are experts in this field and they have worked with you. Every piece of advice they give, comes from a place of reference and experience.
Since your body is the instrument you work with, it is all up to you to make the best of your ability. This means listening to your teacher when she tells you to stretch while your body still hasn't fully developed. The chances of increasing flexibility becomes limited as we grow older.
As dance teachers our goals are to promote a good self-esteem, healthy bodies & joyful experiences.
Unfortunately as hard as a teacher tries, this can only be achieved with the co-operation of the dancers.
You are more than capable of achieving the flexibility you desire. It's just a dash of discipline and a pinch of determination away!
Yours truly
